The Gender Report 2019 (only available in German language) includes three project areas:
Part A: Updating Statistical Trends
Part B: Practices for Gender Equality
Part C: Gender Pay Gap in institutions of higher education in NRW
The updating of statistical developments of the 2019 report includes data processing and quantitative developments. It involves developments in North Rhine-Westphalian higher education compared to other federal states in terms of gender (in)equality. Data from these official statistics is used to illustrate changes in overall figures as well as proportion of men and women, specifically of students, graduates (especially in consecutive programmes), doctorates, post-doctoral candidates as well as scientific and artistic personnel.
The second part of the report focuses on policies promoting gender equality. It includes analysis of the gender distribution in leadership positions, the gender quota and the reconcilability of family and working life. In 2019 analysis of measures concerning sexual harrasment and violence were conducted for the first time.
Part C of the Gender Report is a study on the Gender Pay Gap in higher education in NRW. Using statistical data the Gender Pay Gap for professors in NRW could be determined on a quantitative level. With additional data from an online survey and expert interviews, reasons for the difference were researched. Finally recommendations for action to reduce the Pay Gap were drafted. Therefore the Gender Report 2019 offers the first comprehensive study about Gender Pay Differences in Higher Education in NRW.
