Retired in 2012. Director of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Women's and Gender Studies (IFF) (central institution of the University of Bielefeld) since mid-1990s. 1989 appointment to chair "women's studies in the Social Sciences" at the University of Bielefeld. Before, 13 years social science research on work,  at Sozialforschungsstelle Dortmund, today Central Unit of University of Dortmund; vice-director of this institute. Born in Bergisch Gladbach in 1949, raised in Cologne.

Gender-specific labour market segregation, gender and organisation, gender relations and social change, gender and violence, masculinities in international comparison, gender as a transformative element in teaching
