Oct. 1995 assistant professor at the Institute for Theatre, Film and Television Studies, University of Utrecht, Holland. 1994/95 deputy chair (Prof. Dr. Gertrud Koch) at the Institute for Theatre, Film and Television Studies, Ruhr University Bochum. 1993 work on habilitation dissertation on the subject "New York, Paris, Berlin: Portrayal of Cities in Experimental, Documentary and Entertainment Films of the 1920s and 30s". 1992/93 lecturer at the Ludwig Uhland Institute for Empirical Cultural Studies, University of Tübingen. 1991-92 research visit to New York and Washington as part of a habilitation scholarship from the American Council of Learned Societies. 1989-91 academic employee in the VW research project "The American Documentary in Research and Teaching of German America Studies" carried out by the University of Tübingen American Studies department. 1988-89 deputy professorship in the American Studies department, University of Tübingen. 1988 PhD, University of Tübingen. 1985-88 research associate, University of Tübingen American Studies department. 1980 April-October DAAD research scholarship in New York, Washington, DC and Berkeley, CA. 1979-82 research assistant, University of Tübingen American Studies department. 1977/78 lecturer at Antioch College, Yellow Springs, Ohio, USA; Fulbright scholarship. 1971-77 student of German and English literature (with particular emphasis on American literature) at the University of Tübingen and Leeds/Great Britain (1973/74) with state examinations in June 1977.

Focus of Work

Feminist film theory and modern film theory paradigms. Television theories, particularly cultural studies and feminist approaches. Historical and aesthetic interrelationships between film and television. Construction and representation of cultural and social identities in film and television. Function of the media for gender constructions. Interfaces between gender studies and cultural theory approaches. Global formats in film and television (Hollywood, serial narration) and their local appropriation.
