Vita

Elena Beregow studied Sociology and Gender Studies at the University of Göttingen, the University of Hamburg, and the University of Copenhagen, supported by the German Academic Scholarship Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes). After working as a research associate and completing her PhD at the University of Hamburg (2015–2020), she taught at the University of the Bundeswehr in Munich (2020–2025). Her dissertation, which explores thermal figures in social theory, was awarded the Dissertation Prize of the Sociological Theory Section of the German Sociological Association (DGS) in 2022. She is co-editor of the journal Pop. Kultur und Kritik and was a Visiting Research Fellow at the Collaborative Research Center “Transformations of the Popular” in Siegen. Between 2022 and 2025, she was an associated researcher in the ERC project “Cryosocieties” at Goethe University Frankfurt and participated in several research networks funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). Since 2025, she has been Junior Professor of Cultural Sociology at the College for Social Sciences and Humanities of the University Alliance Ruhr, where she leads the research group Sweat. Sociology of Transpiration in the Age of Global Warming.
