Institute for England and America Studies, guest professor at Emory University in Atlanta, and Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities NRW, Essen. 1992 habilitation in the subjects English/American Literature at the University of Frankfurt/M. 1986 to 1990 assistant professorships at the Universities of Frankfurt/M. and Zurich. 1989 guest professor at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio, German department and at the University of California, Berkeley, German department. 1982-1983 lecturer at the University of Sussex, Brighton. 1975-1985 research associate at the University of Cologne. 1978 PhD in German literature, University of Cologne. 1972-1975 research assistant at the University of Munich, English Seminar.

Focus of Work

Teaching and research on Renaissance and 20th-century literature, theoretical positions of Cultural Studies and Gender Studies, questions of the contribution of literature to cultural models and concepts, media conveyance and cultural transformation of objects
